PRECIOSA ORNELA'S GORGEOUS GLASS BEAD GIFT
I received a surprise package today and was so excited to open it. It was all I could do not to rip into it because it came from PRECIOSA ORNELA. When I opened the package I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the box crammed full of glass beads and goodies. The beads just sparkled and shined. I loved the beautiful blues and purples I saw. My mind went to work dreaming up all the hundreds of possibilities that lay before my eyes. I want to thank PRECIOSA for this awesome generous gift they have given me . This is a 95 page soft cover book with 28 projects . There is something here for everyone no matter what level of expertise you are at. There are projects for beginners, Intermediates, and Advanced artisans. This awesome publication was published by KALMBACH BOOKS.
Book layout is as follows: Page 4 Introduction, page 5-6 Basics making jump rings, page 7-8 Basic tumbling jump rings, page 9-10 Basic Aspect Ratio. Then on Pages 11-44 the Beginner weave projects begin. On pages 45-84 the Intermediate weaves begin, and last but not least on page 85-95 the Advanced weaves begin.
Sue Ripch has been making chain mail jewelry for a number of years and teaches the craft in bead stores and at national bead shows. She is an accomplished author of, " CLASSIC CHAIN MAIL JEWELRY" and This publication "CLASSIC CHAIN MAIL JEWELRY WITH A TWIST". Sue and her husband have an online business, "JEWELRY BY SUE". They offer finished jewelry , kits, and jump rings made to specifications. Sue's designs are also represented by a Sedona, Ariz. gallery.
This book is exquisite and it is laid out with not only written step by step easy to follow instructions but also with photographed steps. The photography is spectacular very crisp and clear and easy to follow. Every detail of each project is covered.
I decided to take this review one step further and try to make one of these projects. So I chose the CRAZY BYZ BRACELET on page 21. Here are a couple of pics of my completed bracelet.
I found the directions to be easy to follow. I have tried chain mail in the past and lost patience and gave up, but not this time. Sue makes it easier and fun. Melissa Grakowsky has won numerous prizes for her Jewelry designs and her beaded Masks. Some of the contest she won are: Grand Prize in the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads 2010 polymer clay contest, Bead Star's 2010 top prize in glass beads, and third place in the 2009 Bead Dreams Objects and accessories category. Melissa also regularly teaches workshops Nationally and Internationally and loves to share with and learn from students.
In Chapter one of Melissa's meticulously laid out book you get the lowdown on all the materials and tools needed to complete the 26 projects. In chapter two you will discover the flat herringbone stitch and the ladder stitch which is a companion stitch to herringbone. This chapter is also accompanied with a terminology chart which is a major plus in my book. The projects also begin in this chapter. In the chapters that follow this chapter you will learn different variations of the herringbone stitch and each variation is accompanied by projects.
Then in Chapter Six Melissa will show you how to capture stones in your beadwork. She does this by using three different methods of using stones as focal points.
On pages 120-124 you are treated to a gallery of Jewelry created by various artist. On Page 125 You will see a gallery of a couple of Melissa's Creations. On page 126 you get the appendix , a list of seed beads used in the projects in this book just in case you want to replicate a project. Page 127: acknowledgement and a write up on author. Page 128: the index.
This spectacular beading publication is full of gorgeous projects with easy to follow written instructions accompanied by 360 easy to follow Illustrations.
If you are an avid Herringbone artist you will want this book for the various projects. If you are a beginner you will want this book for the instructions and lessons you can learn on Herringbone stitching. I personally am thrilled this book is a part of my library.
